Fire performance of axially ductile connections in composite construction

To enhance the robustness of steel-framed structures in fire, a novel, axially ductile connection has previously been proposed. In this paper its performance is investigated when it used to connect composite beams steel columns steel-concrete construction. The designed satisfy ductility demands beam at elevated temperatures. A reinforcement component added bare-steel model establish component-based connection. incorporated into software Vulcan, and validated against detailed Abaqus FE models using solid elements. Results show that proposed can efficiently represent behaviour given by simulations. Parametric studies Vulcan have carried out, varying three parameters; thickness, semi-cylindrical section radius, density longitudinal reinforcing bars. Finally, 2-D frame created investigate influence shear studs on connections under different stud spacings.
